HOWARD OPTIONAL PLACEMENT PROGRAM

2017-2018

Ron Ford, Administrative Assistant

Howard Optional Placement Program successfully completed its audit this year without any recommendations for improvement. Some of the program's strengths listed by the SC State Department of Education were as follows:

  • HOPP uses face-to-face instruction with technology support.
  • Classes are small in number of students; (We served 132 students last year and 120 the previous year.)
  • HOPP sponsors monthly parenting workshops with 100% participation
  • Direct instruction is provided in addition to APEX on line learning
  • Silent sustained reading is required
  • Art, PE, and Health electives are offered for students
  • 17 computer software programs are available for use (to include APEX) (Edmodo, success maker, teacher works, Glencoe science, ETV streamline, etc.)
  • Students have access to a district behavioral interventionist II, a district behavioral health services specialist, and a family therapist with Waccamaw Mental Health
  • Mr. Ford (support staff) has been with HOPP for 18 years. He knows the school; he knows the students, parents and the community.
